Athens: The Saronic and Argolic Gulfs are normally a protected cruising area, with average 3 to 4 winds from north to NNE. The wind is mostly from the south-east in the Argolic Gulf during summer, and averages Force 3 to 5. The winds are normally weaker during spring and autumn, they blow from the south.
Athens warning: At night it is hard to spot the reef of Aghios Cosmas, SE of the Alimos Marina entrance, although there is a light on it. Keep clear of the rocks of Mermingia, 4.5 miles SE of Alimos Marina towards Cape Sounio.
Lavrion, Mykonos and Paros: Meltemi's prevailing winds blow from the north throughout the summer, peaking in July and August at Force 5 to 7, occasionally reaching Force 9. During spring and autumn, winds can also blow from the south.
Lavrion warning: Beware of three reefs found to the north, middle and south of Makronisi Island and two reefs close to the mainland (Cape Sounio and Ali Pasas). There is heavy traffic in this area from steamers, fishing and sailing yachts.
Paros warning: Beware of the rocks “Portes” Ag.Spyridonos, Vouves, Kaki Skala, Peponas on the north north-west side of the port entrance. Beware of the shallows at Ak. Fokas (port side of the entrance) and stay into the separation system (buoys) at entrance in Parikia.
Corfu and Lefkas: The wind and sailing conditions in the Ionian Sea are ideal and predictable, blowing north-west at Force 2 to 5 between May and September. In spring and autumn, the wind is less strong and blows usually from south-west.
Corfu warning: When entering the bay of Gouvia, avoid the shallows by keeping to the north side and stay in the separation system (buoys).
Lefkas warning: During your approach to the marina of the main port, stay within the separation system (buoys) to avoid the shallows.
Rhodes, Kos and Skiathos: The prevailing wind Meltemi blows from the north-east during summer, peaking in July and August at Force 4 to 6. During spring and autumn, winds are calmer and blow from the south-east.
Rhodes warning: Beware of the rocks on the north side of the port entrance. Keep your distance from the beach before the entrance of the port.
Kos warning: Keep your distance from the shoals extending from Akrotiri Ammoglossa and be aware of the Meltemi and its strong gusts into the bay.
Skiathos warning: Beware of ferries and hydrofoils. Do not anchor inside the airport cone (zone). No vessel with height over 4 meters can anchor in the airport’s landing path.
