Money

Since Puerto Rico is part of the United States, the island's currency is the US dollar. The US dolar is divided into 100 cents (¢) and referred by locals as "peso".

Coins: 1¢, called the centavo or chavito (penny); 5¢, called the villon or ficha (nickel); 10¢ (dime); 25¢, called the peseta (quarter); and the seldom-seen 50¢ (half-dollar) coin and $1.

Bills: $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000.

Climate

The climate of Puerto Rico falls into the tropical climatic zone. Temperatures are moderate year round, averaging near 80 °F (26.7 °C) in lower elevations and 70 °F (21.1 °C) in the mountains. Easterly trade winds pass across the island year round. Puerto Rico has a rainy season which stretches from April into November. The mountains of the Cordillera Central are the main cause of the variations in the temperature and rainfall that occur over very short distances. The mountains can also cause wide variation in local wind speed and direction due to their sheltering and channeling effects adding to the climatic variation. About a quarter of the annual rainfall for Puerto Rico, on average, occurs during tropical cyclones, which are more frequent during La Niña events.

Marina Facilities

Marina Puerto del Rey is the largest marina in the Caribbean. It is a facility with a variety of services. It is located on Highway # 3, Km. 51.4 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. “Puerto del Rey” means “King’s Port” in Spanish and demonstrates owner and developer Daniel Shelley’s plan to build a marina with strong linkage to Puerto Rico’s colonial heritage. Completed in 1988, this “King’s Port” in 1995 was operating at near its capacity of 700 slips on concrete fixed piers and 450 covered dry racks for smaller boats three-high, with extra spaces along piers and at anchor for transient boats.

The marina has: Over 1,000 Deep Water Sips from 30’ to 300’, Concierge, Cart service to your slip, Modern Electrical Facilities, Free Water Cable TV & WiFi, Fuel Dock, Pump Out Service at your slip at fuel dock, 24 hour security, Monitoring VHF Channels 71 & 16, General Store and Deli, Laundry Facilities, Car Rental, Fine Waterfront Restaurant, Heliport, Boat Excursions, Dicing Trips and Lessons, Fishing Charters...
