No, you only need experience on similar boats you'd like to charter. If you don't have much experience, we are happy to assign a skipper for a day or as long as you think you need to get you up to speed.
The currency is the Euro, but U.S. dollars are also accepted in both sides of the island. Visa and MasterCard are accepted in the main tourist areas but not in rural locations.
A passport valid for three months after your return date is included in the documentation you need to sail to St. Martin, and you need a return or onward flight ticket. You'll need a visa if you decide to stay for more than three months (approach the French consulate for more details). Speak to us before you leave to make sure you have the right documentation.
St Martin has excellent sailing conditions, the trade winds, "Kings of the Caribbean," normally blow from December until March and from June until August. July through November are the hurricane season.
The best time to visit Saint Martin is between January and June, during the dry season. With air and sea temperatures about 82oF all year round, the region's climate is inter-tropical.
The dry season (January to June) and the rainy season are just marginally different (June till December). As on the neighboring islands, there is no real rainy season, you might only experience light rain during the day.
The most widespread language on the island is English, and French is very common on the French side. Dutch, Spanish, Creole, and Papiamento are also spoken in the melting pot of cultures in St. Martin.
